Broken Bay
Broken Bay lays at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River as well as the entrance to Brisbane Water. It separates the Central Coast from the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
Broken Bay is accessible from the Sydney side from boat ramps in Pittwater and even Palm Beach. From the Central Coast, there are boat ramps on Brisbane Water or at Patonga providing ready access to the area.
There is are two commercial dive operations working put of Broken Bay, a dive shop at Umina and a charter operator working out of Ettalong. There is also at least one Sydney operator now also running charter operations out of Pittwater again.
There are some good wreck dives in the area including the Valiant, the SS Birchgrove Park as well as the TSS Halcaine. The reef diving off the northern beaches is very accessible and East and West Reef off Bouddi National Park warrants some further exploration as the sponge gardens discovered to date are very impressive. Further site descriptions will follow.
